Welcome to “Fluoroscopic Radiation Protection for Physicians”. This is an ASRT approved, four (4) CEU course covering radiation safety in the clinical uses of fluoroscopy. For physicians in California, this course satisfies the California requirement for fluoroscopic radiation protection. It is presented using actual demonstrations with the c-arm in the OR, or in fluoroscopic and interventional suites, as well as live lectures.
Some of the demonstrations include showing the location and amount of scatter during a cross table lateral hip in OR, the location and amount of scatter during a pacemaker or Cholangiogram in OR, the dose difference between magnification modes, the dose difference between spot and captured/saved images, and how much radiation is saved using pulse modes, collimation and the Inverse Square Law.
The goal of the lectures is to introduce different concepts regarding scatter radiation and the demonstrations are used to show how much radiation occurs during typical fluoroscopy examinations, as well as, what can be done to minimize dose to everyone in the room while maximizing image quality.
